A Step-By-Step Guide To Making A Beautiful Pampas Wreath

After a turbulent autumn, we can’t wait for Christmas, celebrating the festive season with all of our loved ones and creating cosy, cocooning decor with natural textures and pretty florals.

To amp up the cosy vibe indoors, a pampas wreath really adds softness and warmth to a space. This year our Christmas collections have been designed to add touches of extra luxury to the upcoming holidays. The Etienne collection features beautiful tones of cinnamon rose, warm neutrals in soft textures and luxe metallics with a hint of festive sparkle.

Follow our step-by-step guide to make a sustainable pampas wreath that will last all year. Use our Etienne indoor wreath kit, featuring beautiful dried florals, pampas and preserved foliage or forage your own pampas and seasonal stems from your garden.

You will need:

A base for your wreath – our kit contains a Cooee design brass wreath for extra festive sparkle and a gorgeous home accessory to use time and time again. A wire wreath frame or natural rattan or willow woven hoop will also work well.

Pampas stems, enough to roughly cover your chosen base. You will need to decide whether you would like your finished design to cover all of your wreath hoop or to cover half to three quarters in a contemporary asymmetric design.

A selection of stems of dried or preserved foliage and flowers, to add interest and definition to your design.

Floristry tape in white or light brown to match your stems. If your base is rattan or willow then floristry wire would be the best choice for attaching your stems.

Sharp scissors or secateurs.

Optional ribbon for a final flourish!

One: The Beginning

Organise your stems. Make little bundles of mixed stems and use floristry tape to bind the ends together.

Our florist’s tip: For a wild, asymmetric style keep your bunches longer. For a uniform compact shape make all of your bunches similar in size and design.

Two: Getting Attached

Once you have finished creating your bundles, use the floristry tape to attach the bunches to the hoop. Try to overlap each one to hide the tape as you go. As your wreath starts to take shape you can adjust positioning to create your intended design.

Three: Almost There!

Continue to work around the hoop, when you get down to your last bunch reverse the direction and tuck the stem ends back into the main body of the wreath. Alternatively, use your ribbon to cover the last piece of visible floristry tape.

Our florist’s tip: If you would like a more uniform look, this is a great stage to trim down and ‘edit’ your shape.

Four: You’re Done

To finish off your wreath, attach any final details (focal flowers, a beautiful ribbon or your own special additions). Now hang your wreath or stand it on a shelf or mantle and enjoy the view!

We love using any leftover pampas and dried stems to make mini gift toppers.
