What’s the difference between preserved and fresh flowers?
Preserved flowers have had their sap replaced with glycerine, meaning that they don’t wilt and can last up to a year, unlike fresh flowers which usually wilt after 2-3 weeks.
Are preserved flowers artificial?
No, they are all real flowers! Their fresh look when preserved makes it hard to believe they are real and dried.
Are preserved flowers the same as dried flowers?
Preserved flowers are dried, however before they are dried they undergo a special preservation treatment where the sap is replaced by 100% plant-based glycerine and dyes. The treatment maintains the cell structure of the plants, leaving them feeling soft and retaining their natural beauty for many months.
Do preserved flowers have a scent?
Like fresh flowers, preserved flowers do have a scent. We particularly love working with preserved lavender and eucalyptus for their beautiful fragrance. The natural scent of each variety of stem is retained in the preservation process, however, this will fade over time.
Do preserved flowers contain dye?
Yes, they glycerine absorbed by the flowers is sometimes dyed to enhance and sustain their colour. All preservation ingredients are natural and non-toxic.
Are preserved flowers eco-friendly?
Yes! Our flowers are long-lasting and can be reused time and time again, reducing waste and transportation compared to fresh-cut flowers. They are preserved with 100% natural ingredients and are fully biodegradable.
Are your flowers pet-friendly?
As all the flowers are natural they retain their natural properties and the pet safety will depend on the individual flower. Please check the varieties you wish to buy for pet safety and feel free to contact us if you have any questions!
Do I need to water preserved flowers?
No, you should NOT water preserved flowers, they do not need any water or light and should not get wet.
How do I arrange my letterbox bouquet?
We have created some tutorials on the best ways to arrange your letterbox bouquet – here
Do I need to rearrange a pre-tied bouquet?
It’s entirely up to you! Our hand-tied bouquets arrive ready for you to simply untie the ribbon and place in a vase, however you can adjust them to suit your chosen vase and rearrange them in a few months for a new look!
How should I look after my preserved flowers once I’ve arranged them?
There isn’t much you’ll need to do once you have arranged your flowers, just gently dust them when needed. For more advice view our – care instructions
What type of vase should I select for my flowers?
Check our vase recommendations under each bouquet to find the perfect pairing. We favour an opaque or coloured glass vase to put the focus on the flowers and disguise the lack of water, making sure everyone thinks your shida flowers are fresh!
Can I keep preserved flowers in sunlight?
Keep your preserved flowers away from direct sunlight to keep their colour bright for longer. Preserved flowers do not need any light at all which makes them perfect for darker rooms or corners where your pot plants do not thrive.
Can I keep preserved flowers outdoors?
Preserved flowers are recommended for indoor use and would not last if exposed to sunlight and damp weather. However, if it’s a sunny day and you would like to have some preserved flowers on a dining table outside that will be okay!
How will my flowers arrive?
Depending on your choice of bouquet, they will either arrive in a letterbox which can be posted through your door, or in a bouquet box, gift wrapped ready for you to arrange at home or to give as a gift. All flowers are hand-prepared by our talented florists and wrapped in shida gift wrap with a hand-written card.
Can I write a gift message when I order preserved flowers for my friends?
Yes you can! At the checkout select your gift options. Your message will be hand-written and care instructions are included.
I’m not sure what flowers to pick as a gift, do you do gift cards?
Yes we do! You can buy our gift cards in multiples of £20 or £50 depending on how much you would like to treat someone.
How far in advance can I buy preserved flowers?
We recommend buying your preserved flowers close to the date that they will be needed as a gift, however you can buy them weeks in advance before you gift them, store them in the box in a warm, dry room and they will still look wonderful.
