The Breakfasts of Champions (Mums)

Almost all of us have a Mother's Day breakfast tale. Whether it’s stone-cold toast and coffee, uncooked sausages or soggy cereal we can all relate in some way or another. I remember jumping on mum’s bed at around 5:30 to wake her up as ‘a special surprise’ on Mother’s Day morning... I’m sure she would have much preferred something from the list below as her treat. We’ve compiled a selection of the best breakfasts you could serve/help serve for the mum in your life. My personal favourite is the Shakshuka; it’s a must for dippy goodness!

Bakery Breakfast – Woosters

Isn't it nice not to have to wash up although napkins are a must with all those golden pastry flakes that seem to turn up just about everywhere. Woosters Bakery is our local bakery and makes the most amazing breads and pastries amongst other things. We always use them for our shoots and eat them afterwards, it would be rude not to! Serve them with a hot coffee and your all set for probably the easiest breakfast!

Preserved and dried flowers from Shida Preserved Flowers

Full English – Culinary Ginger

What a classic. Don’t be serving this before your 12 o’clock lunch or they won’t be able to finish it all! This multi-component brekkie will need some level of cooking but if you can use a frying pan, you’ll be able to get this show on the road! Change up the eggs to a poached or scrambled egg as per their liking but make sure you’ve got in some Tomato Ketchup or Brown Sauce for dipping.

Smoothie Bowl - Hemsley + Hemsley
For the insta-mum who wants to show the world what you’ve created. These smoothie bowls have been popping up left right and centre and they are pretty beautiful aren’t they. This smoothie uses frozen berries and banana but use can invent your own or use your favourite recipe. Top with anything from seeds and grains to chopped fruit or edible flowers! You can really go all out!

Shakshuka – Mob Kitchen

This is one for all the savoury breakfast lovers out there. This spiced, tomato sauce is laced with peppers and chorizo with eggs for a good bit of dipping! We love this with a drizzle of chilli oil and some proper bread for scooping, spreading and munching. This requires a reasonable level of cooking but it’s so worth it, you’ll want to do it every weekend.

Aussie Breakfast – Bill Granger

We’re always inspired by Australia, whether it’s the modern design, exotic flowers and colours or their laid-back nature! The food is just as good with freshness top of the list; you’ll find zingy flavours with lots of lime and a real understanding of tasty, healthy meals. The roasted tomato here is the stuff of dreams paired with cooling avocado and big flavoured sweetcorn cakes for fresh crunch! 10/10

American Pancakes - Lost in Food
If you can fry an egg, you can make pancakes. Best served with lashings of maple syrup but why not switch it up with thick yoghurt and fresh fruit or chopped banana and chocolate shavings. This recipe is slightly different to traditional English pancakes but more filling and great for soaking up syrup!

Even if you do end up with soggy cornflakes and milky tea, it’s the thought that counts, right? Wishing all of you a wonderful weekend and hoping that you get (and give) lots of love from those who are special to you. Enjoy some yummy breakfasts everyone!
