Repurposing Preserved Flowers: The Christmas Edit

The tree is up, the lights are on and we’re counting down the days until Christmas! As you all know we love creating a curated space to enjoy and Christmas provides the perfect excuse. Did you know that preserved & dried flowers can be reused in some creative ways? We've put together a few simple ideas on how to reuse your preserved & dried flowers, which will help to make some room for the one you might be gifted over the next few weeks... Let's get started.

Place Settings:

Make all the difference to your festive table this season by creating floral place settings! These are a beautiful & natural addition to tablescapes and can be reused time and time again. You can also gather your mini bouquets after the festive season and style them around your home in a selection of smaller vases. Follow these steps to create your own set of floral place settings:

Step one: Pick a selection of stems from an existing bouquet.

Step two: Trim down your stems to around 14cm in length and gently strip any additional leaves from around the lower half of the stem.

Step three: Bunch your stems together to create a mini arrangement and using twine or ribbon tie them together.

Step four: Style with your favourite table linen!

Napkins:

Napkins are a necessity for gravy spilling, turkey munching friends and family, whether it’s Christmas or not! Napkin rings can often become spare parts once everyone’s tucking in so why not try out some of our folds and ties for some simple and effective ways to style your table.

The overhand knot:

How To: Lay your napkin out and bring one corner to the other to make a large triangle. Fold the corner inwards so that it meets the long edge and fold, longways, in half again. Take each corner and tie a loose knot in the middle, fluffing out the napkin where you feel necessary.

The casual fold:

How To: Lay your napkin out flat and pinch the centre point with your thumb and forefinger. Lift up and drape onto your plate with the pinched point facing away from the guest. Place a smaller plate on top with your place setting and arrange your place setting on top.

The pocket fold:

How To: Lay your napkin flat and bring the two longest edges together to create a long rectangle. Fold the two long edges into the middle and flip it onto its back. Take one short side and fold inwards, a third of the way along the material. Fold the other side over this to create a tall rectangle shape and flip back over. Slot your floral table setting and cutlery into the pocket on the front and you’re all set.

Gift Wrapping Details:

There’s something really special about receiving a beautifully wrapped gift and there are so many ways to make your gifts stand out with a personal touch. A great option to elevate your wrapping this year is to add your very own handmade gift tags or toppers (or both!). Here are some easy steps to help you create showstopping gift decorations this year:

Gift Tags:

Step one: Pick a selection of stems from an existing bouquet.

Step two: Cut some labels out of card - you can choose any size or shape you like! We went for 4cm x 7cm for ours.

Step three: Trim down your stems to fit your label in length and gently strip any additional leaves around the lower half of the stem.

Step four: Bunch your stems together or use single stems to create a mini arrangement and using washi tape, stick them to your label.

Step five: Don’t forget to punch a hole in the top of your tag so you can tie it to your gifts!

Gift Toppers:

Step one: Pick a selection of stems from an existing bouquet.

Step two: Trim down your stems to around 14cm in length and gently strip any additional leaves around the lower half of the stem.

Step three: Bunch your stems together to create a mini arrangement and using twine or ribbon tie them together.

Step four: Style with your favourite gift wrap - we love pairing our floral gift toppers with furoshiki gift wrapping.
